HOW TO DOWNLOAD & INSTALL ON
WINDOWS 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP or Vista SYSTEMS

In the download section of the website you will find downloads for both the current (all sports) and classic (bowling only) versions of the program. Both versions are clearly labeled and have underlined text that says "Click here to download installation file". Click on this underlined text for the version you want to start the download process.

Depending on how your browser and computer are setup one or more dialog boxes may pop up asking you about where you want to store the downloaded file on your computer. If these dialog boxes do appear, click on the "OK" button on each one to proceed with the download process. As the download is proceding you will see a dialog box on your computer informing you of the download progress (what you see will depend on which internet browser you are using). When the download is successfully completed Windows should give you a message informing you that the download was successful. Click on the "OK" button on the message to clear it.

If you know which folder the downloaded file was saved in on your computer you can skip the following directions for the "Search" menu selection. Use "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" to locate the downloaded file on your computer and continue with After finding LEAGUE32BT.EXE below.

After the download has been completed you are ready to begin installing The League Assistant on your computer. Click on the Windows "Start" button. Depending on the version of the Windows operating system that you have, you will either see "Find" or "Search" as a menu selection after you click on the "Start" button.

If you click on the "Start" menu and have "Find" as a menu selection then,

select "Find" and then "Files or Folders...". A dialog box with three tabs labeled "Name & Location", "Date", and "Advanced" will appear on your screen. Click on the "Name & Location" tab. You are going to work with the items labeled "Named", "Look in" and "Include subfolders".

In the text box to the right of the word "Named:" type

LEAG32BT.EXE

Click on the down arrow on the right side of the text box to the right of the words "Look in:". You will see a list of all the possible places that Windows could look for the program. If the option "Local hard drives" is available then pick it. If not, then select the option for your hard drive C. You will know which option this is because you will see the text "(C:)" as part of the selection.

Make sure there is a check mark to the left of the words "Include subfolders". If the box is empty (no check mark) click on the empty box to put a check mark in it.

Click on the "Find Now" button and Windows will search for the file. When the search starts a new section will appear at the bottom of the Find dialog box with two columns labeled "Name" and "In Folder". Skip the following directions for the "Search" menu selection and continue with After finding LEAGUE32BT.EXE below.

If you click on the "Start" menu and have "Search" as a menu selection then,

select "Search" and then "All files and folders...". A dialog box will appear on your screen.

In the text box below "All or part of the file name:" type

LEAG32BT.EXE

If the option "Local hard drives" is available then pick it. If not, then select the option for your hard drive C. You will know which option this is because you will see the text "(C:)" as part of the selection.

Click on the down arrow to the right of the text "More Advanced Options". Make sure there is a check mark to the left of the words "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders", and "Search subfolders". If any of the boxes are empty (no check mark) click on the empty box to put a check mark in it.

Click on the "Search" button and Windows will search for the file. When the search starts a new section will appear at the bottom of the Find dialog box with two columns labeled "Name" and "In Folder".

If you downloaded the file successfully and followed the directions for completing the "Find" or "Search" dialog box, Windows will find the file and it will appear in the column under "Name".

After finding LEAG32BT.EXE...

Double click on the file name "leag32bt.exe" or "leag32bt" (may be in upper or lower case). A new dialog box titled "WinZip Self Extractor" will pop up. In the center of this dialog box is a text box with the words "Unzip to folder:" above it. If it is not already there type the following in the text box:

C:/WINDOWS/TEMP

Click on the "Unzip" button to start the unzipping process. When the unzipping process is successfully completed you will get a message on the screen. Click on the "OK" button on the message to clear it.

If you are upgrading from an older version of the program you will want to uninstall the old version before you install the new version. To uninstall an older version click on the Windows "Start" button, select "Settings", and then select "Control Panel". Double click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon. Find "The League Assistant" in the list of programs and click on it to highlight it. Click on the "Add/Remove" button to uninstall the program.

After the installation you will be able to start up The League Assistant program by clicking on the Windows "Start" button. Select "Programs", the "The League Assistant" group, and then "The League Assistant" program.

If you are using this program with Microsoft Vista, it will need to be opened with "Run as Administrator". You will have to give the program permission to run.  Once you have done this it will run by just clicking on the logo. You can find directions for this from Microsoft on the following web page.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931362

Step 2 tells you how to "Run as Administrator".

If you have other problems with Vista please contact me at support@leagueassistant.com

The directions above were for the current version. The classic version of the program also runs on Windows 95 and 98 systems but not on NT, 2000 or XP systems. If you have an old computer and would like to use the classic version of the program (bowling only) instead of the current version on your Windows 95 or 98 system, you can follow the directions for installing the 16 bit program.

If you have problems with this procedure, please contact me at support@leagueassistant.com
